“But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, ‘Lord, save me!’” – Matthew 14:30 (NIV)

As we step into the month of September, many of us are navigating changes — the end of summer, the start of a new school year, or simply the shifting seasons of life. It's easy to feel overwhelmed, distracted, or unsure about what lies ahead. But this month, the Lord is calling us to refocus — to take our eyes off the waves and fix them back on Him.

One of the most powerful examples of faith and focus in Scripture comes from the story of Peter walking on water. In Matthew 14:22–33, we see Peter step out of the boat, in full faith, walking toward Jesus on the water. As long as his eyes were fixed on Christ, he did the impossible — he walked in the supernatural.

But what happened when Peter looked at the wind and the waves?

He began to sink.

Not because Jesus moved, but because Peter’s focus shifted.

How often do we do the same? We start out bold and full of faith, trusting God with our families, ministries, finances, or health. But then the waves come. Distractions, disappointments, delays — and before we know it, we’re sinking in fear, doubt, or anxiety.

But here’s the good news: even as Peter began to sink, he cried out, and immediately, Jesus reached out His hand and caught him.

That’s the kind of Savior we serve.

This September, God is reminding us:

  • Step out in faith — even when the path seems uncertain.

  • Fix your eyes on Jesus, not your circumstances.

  • Cry out when you feel yourself sinking — He is near, and He will reach for you.

  • Don’t let temporary storms cause permanent fear.

Prayer for the Month:

Lord, help me to keep my eyes on You. When the winds rise and the waves grow strong, remind me that You are stronger. Strengthen my faith, steady my steps, and lead me back to Your presence when I lose focus. Like Peter, I choose to step out in faith — and trust that You will catch me every time. In Jesus’ name, amen.

This September, walk in courageous faith. Don’t just survive the storms — walk above them. As long as your eyes are on Jesus, no wave can overtake you.

Stay anchored in Him.
